A design inspired by the internal radio call of '12 O'Clock High', which alerted the B-17 crew of an incoming enemy position which was straight ahead and high. "High" or "Low" depended if the enemy position was above or below the airplane flying altitude. The B-17 was primarily employed by the USAAF in the daylight strategic bombing campaign of WW2 over Europe and in the Pacific Theater from 1941.
