Irish Republican and Socialist Leader James Connolly
A visual homage to one of the 1916 leaders - James Connolly (1868-1916). Born in Edinburgh, to Irish parents Connolly founded the Irish Socialist Republican Party and co-founded the Irish Citizen Army. Instrumental in the Easter Rising of 1916, he was executed by a British firing squad on May 12th, 1916. During the British counter-attacks on the G.P.O., he was gravely injured in the leg and upon execution by firing squad was lowered upon a chair in Kilmainham Gaol.
