Enjoy a taste of history with our lemon flavored Gibraltars. First made in 1806, these white, delicate and incredibly delicious candies are still handcrafted in Salem, Massachusetts by original descendants of the 1806 candy makers.
On the passage from England in 1806, all worldly goods were lost in a shipwreck and the family arrived in Salem in a destitute state. They took up a residence in North Salem and such were their privations that their neighbors determined to offer assistance. It became known that Mrs. Spencer was a candy maker, so a barrel of sugar was donated. It was this barrel of sugar which laid the foundations of the well-known ‘Salem Gibralter’ business.
Ingredients. Sugar, water, cream of tartar, cornstarch and oil of lemon.
