Homage to the famed Batallón de San Patricio of the Mexican–American War of 1846-48. Its founder and leader was a U.S. Army Private named John Patrick Riley from the Connemara town of Clifden in Galway, Ireland. The battalion composed mostly of Irish Catholic immigrants and other expatriates of European descent who defected from the United States Army and joined the Mexican forces. On the losing side - 50 San Patricios were officially executed by the U.S. Army.
